The driver of the vehicle fled the scene, Ortlund said. The child was attempting to cross the street when she was struck, according to a news release issued Friday night by the city of Monrovia.

"The driver fled without stopping at the scene, continuing west on Huntington, south on Myrtle and then West on the 210 Foothill Freeway," the release states.

No suspect has been apprehended and police are soliciting the help of the public to aid in the investigation, Ortlund said. Police said witnesses described the vehicle as a pearl white Infinity, possibly a 2004 J30 model, or a similar vehicle.

"It would have damage to the right side mirror," Ortlund said.

Police issued two photos illustrating what that car model would look like. They are attached to this story.

Ortlund said two shifts of officers are working the case.

"I have personnel who are investigating this and following up some leads right now so I’m hoping that we'll have some breakthroughs," he said.

Patch blogger Karen Lujan, who has a child at , said in an email that the school sent out a robo-call explaining that the victim was a sixth grader at the school. Her parents have been notified, according to the call.
