EXCLUSIVE: Quigley Footage Shows Destruction of Local Woodlands
Tree sitter John Quigley sent Patch this video he took from his perch inside one of the trees slated for destruction by L.A. County Public Works.
John Quigley, one of the four tree sitters protesting the destruction of the Arcadia Woodlands, has sent Patch footage documenting the removal of the oak trees inside the sediment placement site.
“They’ve cut trees as close 10 to 15 feet away [from us]. It’s been a sad day for Southern California,” Quigley said in a phone interview with Patch while perched forty feet high in an oak tree.
Quigley told Patch his “goal right now is to make it to sunset.”
Officials with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department have told Quigley that they will come get the tree sitters out if they do not cooperate.
“We’re obviously hoping for a different outcome where maybe there’s some sanity into this process, where Antonovich and the Department of Public Works listens to the community," Quigley said.
He and three other protesters have been up in the trees since about 4:30 a.m. Wednesday morning.
Quigley told Patch that he and his cohorts came prepared with supplies.
“At this point, we’re committed to being here as long as we can be here," Quigley said.
In 2002-2003, Quigley famously chained himself to a tree for 71 days.

All down to money I bet for the County and the Supervisors but has anyone forgotten about supervisor Mark Ridley Thomas and his getting caught trying to spend $ 707,ooo of taxpayer "discretionary funds" last year on "redecorating", YES "redecorating" his office. Could an alternative plan of disposal be thought of that those money's could be used for...

Just a small comment.....
I had talked to Antonovich's office on alternatives a week before. They did not want to listen but pointed to the EIR. There were Arborists from LA County at a meeting on the day of the razing, knowing full well of the scourge that was decimating San Diego's Oak Forests and coming north .... Surely, somebody knew destroying this old growth was a preliminary bell for what will be coming to Los Angles.... We were asked to watch carefully for signs of this insect.
And as the LA County bulldozers were razing this patch of Cal. Oaks....

I think the Supervisor cannot plea ignorance.... considering LA County was at that meeting.
