UPDATE: Arrest in Hunting Knife Stabbing

The man allegedly stabbed the male companion of his estranged wife on Sunday, police said.

A man was arrested and booked on attempted murder charges Sunday after he allegedly broke into his estranged wife's home and stabbed her male companion, according to police.

Police responded to a home in the 1200 block of Encino Avenue at 5:50 p.m. Sunday and found a male with a stab wound to his chest, according to a city news release. The man was transported to the hospital in critical condition, but his status was later upgraded to stable.

The attacker, who had a restraining order against him, allegedly broke into the home and stabbed the man, according to police.

"The suspect was holding a hunting style knife and confronted his wife and the victim, who is his wife’s male companion," the city's news release states. "The suspect stabbed the victim one time in the chest and fled from the location."

The alleged attacker was identified as Aurelio Luis Camacho, 50, of Glendale, according to Monrovia Police Lt. Jaime Alfaro. Camacho remains in custody in lieu of $1 million in bail, according to sheriff's booking records. He is due in Pasadena Superior Court on Tuesday for an arraignment hearing.

Police tracked down Camacho and surrounded his room at a Monrovia motel. He was arrested without incident when he left the room and has been charged with attempted murder and violation of a protective order, police said.
