UPDATE: Wildcat Victory Parade Postponed

The school board was hoping to hold the parade Tuesday, but rain forecasts forced a postponement of the celebration.

A planned parade Tuesday to celebrate the Monrovia High School football team's second consecutive CIF division championship was officially postponed Monday due to weather, a district official said.

School Board President Ed Gililland said the district was planning to hold the parade Tuesday night along the same route as last year--from MHS to Myrtle to Library Park--but had to cancel because of the chance of further showers.

"They have decided they don't want to risk the rain," Gililland said.

Gililland said the district had planned to postpone the parade to Jan. 5, but standout defensive tackle Ellis McCarthy will be out of state playing in the All-America Bowl on that date. Another possible date is Jan. 17, Gililland said, adding that the district will likely make a final decision in the next few days.

I think the parade should be held before Janauary so that all the players will be in attendance. # 18 will be at the Army bowl game and G 5 will be at the Nike combine.

The parade will be a joint effort by the City of Monrovia and the School District, as it was last year. Whichever date is finally chosen to fit all the various schedules, I know the whole community will be out to support our Champions. The support for the Wildcats is awesome!! Go WIldcats.
