Landscaping With Rock; Chrysoprase Topics at April 15 Meeting of PLS

The April 15, 2014 general meeting of the Pasadena Lapidary Society (PLS) will focus on landscaping with rock and rock gardens presented by Arborist, Professional Designer/Landscaper and PLS member Armando Pedroza.  With the variety of rocks and minerals which club members collect on monthly field trips, some specimens are better suited for display in gardens, adding color and variety.  Armando will reveal secrets his company, Forest & Sun Arborist, uses to incorporate these finds into yards, increasing beauty and curb appeal, while saving landscape watering costs.

Our ‘rock of the month’ will be Chrysoprase, a gemstone variety of chalcedony which contains trace amounts of nickel.  Normally an apple-green to deep green in color, chrysoprase was often mistaken for emerald in ancient times.  PLS member Andrew Hernandez will introduce us to this remarkable gemstone.

The meeting is free and open to the public and will be at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 15, 2014, in the Donald Wright Auditorium wing of the Pasadena Central Library at 285 E. Walnut Street, Pasadena 91101.  Visit us on the web at www.pasadenalapidarysociety.org. Like us on Facebook ― follow us on Twitter.
