5 Things You Need To Know Today: Dec. 1

Flag football, chilly temperatures and more ...

1. Come out and watch our fourth and fifth graders compete in the season's final flag football games at Recreation Park, 740 E. Olive Avenue.  plays  beginning at 2 p.m. It's versus for the championship at 3:15 p.m.

2. Cheer competitions will also be held at Recreation Park this afternoon. All four elementary schools that participate in the city's Youth Sports Program-- ,  and --will be competing for the team cheer championship.

3. Drop off toys and other unwrapped holiday children's gifts at the , 140 E. Lemon Ave. Monrovia firefighters, led by Ernie Moreno, are teaming up with other local fire departments on the annual Toys for Tots drive.

4. The first day of December brings chilly temperatures: A high of 65 and a low of 38 forecast for our early morning hours. That's not far from the city's 2010 low, recorded earlier this year at 31 degrees.

5. Get a jump on your 2011 fitness goals by joining the  for a run. Meet at 6 p.m. at the corner of Santa Anita and Santa Clara avenues in Arcadia.
