Altadena resident Alice Sarkisian Wessen has a chihuahua named "Husky" whose name apparently gives him the boldness of a wolf-sized dog: on Tuesday night Husky chased after a bear that was trying to get into Wessen's garbage can, resulting in the bear retreating up a tree.

Like , Husky showed absolutely no fear in going after the bear, Wessen wrote in a local email group: "the bear ran from Husky the Chihuahua. Swear to god that pint sized idiot treed the bear."
She added in an email to Patch that Husky was rescued from the Pasadena Humane Society and usually spends his evenings sleeping under the covers in bed with his owners.
Wessen also noted that the bear bolt affixed to her garbage can held, and the bear did not get in.
Though it is impossible to tell whether a bear in one sighting is the same as in another, there have been several recent sightings in that area, and one at JPL, not so far away:
