First of Monrovia's 'Little Libraries' Installed by Fire Department

Residents are free to borrow and donate books by using the boxes that will be installed throughout the city.

The Monrovia Fire Department constructed the first of the city's "little libraries" designed to encourage residents to share books at drop boxes located throughout town.

The wooden box, built outside a residence at 149 E. Fig Ave., is one of five planned for the city, according to the Monrovia Reads Facebook page. The libraries operate on the honor system and local residents are welcome to borrow and donate books at each location.

Monrovia Fire Capt. Brad Dover built the libraries out of plywood and volunteers from the Monrovia Public Library's Teen Advisory Board painted them.
