Haunted Hike to Make Its Return to Canyon Park

Tickets for Monrovia residents only go on sale today.

After a four-year hiatus, the city of Monrovia's spookiest event of the year returns next month.

The Haunted Hike is back at Canyon Park and tickets for Monrovia residents go on sale for the event today. The general public can purchase their tickets starting Oct. 1.

Senior Park Ranger Hector Inzunza guarantees the event will give the visitors the fright they have been missing.

"This year, we expect to scare the pants off of you," he said.

The annual hike was very popular with the community when it ended in 2008, the number of volunteers involved growing to 70, Inzunza said.

The city was in transition at the time the event was stopped and needed more resources to patrol and manage Monrovia's 1,100-acre Wilderness Preserve, he said. Inzunza was called on to manage the preserve, moving him away from planning events like the Haunted Hike.

"I couldn't manage both, so it had to go on hiatus," he said.

This year's event, which runs Oct. 24-26, will feature more than hikes every 15 minutes. Also planned is a 5,000-square foot outdoor maze and several other attractions Inzunza said he is keeping under wraps.

He anticipates that around 350 people per night will come out to get their fright fix during the three nights.

All of the proceeds raised from the event will go back into the park to fund programs, events, volunteers, and enhancement projects, he said.

The following is information the city of Monrovia provided on the Haunted Hike.
