Photos: The Solar Eclipse Over L.A.

Raw, unedited photos of Sunday's solar eclipse captured above the Los Angeles region.

A rare solar eclipse occurred on Sunday, with the moon blocking out the sun completely except for a ring of fire. The next such phenomenon won't be seen until 2071.

Patch photojournalist Henk Friezer photographed the occurrence from the porch of his Eagle Rock home without the aid of filters or other enhancing photographing aids. See his photos above. He recorded the celestial event in its natural state from about 6:25 p.m. to 6:55 p.m. He did not witness the touted "ring of fire," though, which was evidently not visible locally.
