'Take Time For Art' at MAFA Annual Gala

The Monrovia Association of Fine Arts hosts it's annual event to honor local artists and art patrons this Saturday at Restaurant Devon in Old Town.

This year's theme for the Monrovia Association of Fine Arts Annual "Acknowledge the Arts" fundraising celebration is "Take Time for Art!" and to emphasize that idea, local artists created unique works of art out of old clocks.

Adding a timely new twist to the theme, ten MAFA member artists modified, decorated, and deconstructed traditional brass alarm clocks into their own interpretations of this year's theme.

Lisa Barrios of and volunteer MAFA artists distributed the clocks to be re-created. In addition to the clock auction, other works will be available, made possible by donations from other MAFA artists.

This year, MAFA will honor local realtor Donna Baker with it’s prestigious Renaissance Award, given to a person who has been instrumental in helping expand the arts in Monrovia.

In an interview with Baker, she said MAFA President Bill Beebe was a major influence on her and explained that her community is of utmost importance to her.
