Bicyclist Transported to Hospital After Collision with Vehicle in Monrovia

The driver says the sun was in his eyes when he turned and struck a bicyclist on Royal Oaks Drive.

A bicyclist was taken to the hospital as a precaution Wednesday morning after he was struck by a vehicle on Royal Oaks Drive, police said.

The car was traveling eastbound on Royal Oaks at about 7:30 a.m. when the driver turned left onto Bradbury Road and struck a bicyclist traveling westbound, Monrovia Police Lt. Nels Ortlund said.

"Because the sun was in his eyes he said he did not see the bicyclist," Ortlund said.

The bicyclist appeared to suffer minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital, Ortlund said. The driver was cited for making an unsafe turn.
