UPDATE, 10:28 p.m.: By 10:14 p.m., bomb technicians with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department rendered the suspicious package safe, according to scanner reports.
Within minutes, officers with Monrovia Police were beginning to allow people inside their homes. It is still unclear what the package may have been.

The package is reportedly in the area of Alta Vista Avenue and West Duarte Road. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Bomb Squad was called by police around 9:20 p.m., according to the Sheriff's Department. Within 30 minutes, technicians were on scene.
Police had cleared an apartment complex nearby around 9:38 p.m.
Authorities with Monrovia Police were not available to give further details on the situation.
