Monrovia Holiday Parade Set

The annual holiday parade will roll into town on Dec. 1.

It's official: Santa's sleigh will cruise up Myrtle Avenue on Thursday, Dec. 1 in the city's annual .

The event kicks off with a tree lighting ceremony in at 6 p.m. An hour later, Santa and his entourage will start heading north on Myrtle from Chestnut Avenue to Palm Avenue.

Last year, about a dozen floats, half a dozen bands, and more than 50 walking entries joined two members of the city's Youth Commission who served as grand marshalls. The Monrovia Old Town Advisory Board, which sponsors the parade, has not announced this year's grand marshalls.

If tradition repeats, trophies will be given out to the best entries, including Best Band, Best Themed Entry, Best Cheerleading Squad, Best Dance Troupe, Best Float, and a miscellaneous award that will be given at the judges' discretion.

After the parade, Santa dismounts from his sled and listens to kids' Christmas wishes in the park.
