It's a great location. With all that we are capable of doing with our computers these days, I wonder how lucrative a business it is. I've also been wondering if an art supply store, like Blick's, not Michael's, would do well in town. I'd also love to see a good bookstore.

If I'm not mistaken, there is a Michaels on Huntington, no? KC Hopper has a remarkable selection of really special cards. I just did some anniversary shopping there a few weeks ago. It's a shame to see them go.

I'd love to see a bookstore also, but because of the internet and Kindle it probably wouldn't be a very lucrative business either.

I would LOVE to get Vroman's back in Monrovia - a good mix of books and stationary/gift items would be fantastic.

Thanks Pattie for your comment. Yes, we are able to do so much with our home computers these days, so fortunately all my invitations are ink jet and laser compatible so it's a perfect fit for those who want to buy them and print them at home. Thankfully for all the brides continuing to get married we are an extreamly lucrative business. Weddings are a huge industry that has helped us to continue to grow every year. A single bride can bring in huge sales, for example, they start with the save the dates, then the engagement party invitation, bridal shower invitations, the wedding invitation, thank you notes, menus, placecards, programs, table numbers....and more. It's remarkable and greatly profitable. So as long as we continue to have weddings, celebrations and holidays, KC Hopper will continue to be the lucrative business it is today!

I have yet to find such a wonderful stationary/gift store as KC HOPPER....and I live all the way in Manhattan Beach. I drive all the way from home just to get the friendly, helpful service and wonderful selection that this wonderful store has. Any one would be lucky to own such a gem. Wish I lived closer, I would buy it.

I'm a paper passion person, because so many items are deliverd in our mailbox spam of postal it is important to announce special events, espically so your invitation doenst get tossed with the Michaels coupon! Good luck Kathleen there will always be a market for special.

Thanks Julie, the reason we have survived so well during this awful economy is in part because of people just like you!!! I really appreciate your support and your comment! Tell all your "paper loving friends" my store is looking for a great new owner, I'd really appreciate that too!! :)

It breaks my heart every time a business in downtown Monrovia closes. I really wish it was a place where small business could make a good living!!!
Kathleen August 26, 2012 at 05:12 AM
No, No, Therese, we are NOT closing, I'm sorry that's what u thought...we do make a great living, because we have amazing support from SO MANY LOCAL MONROVIANS!!! It's unreal how loyal the community is, because of caring hearts like yours. So I'm selling, so I can start my new adventure. But I'm definitely looking for a GREAT new owner to continue my very fun store. Please spread the word so I can find someone perfect. Thank you, thank you!!! Kathleen Hopper
