Readers Choice: Who Makes Monrovia's Best Sandwich?

It's time for sandwich wars in Monrovia, where our local lunch spots will duke it out for the honor of being named the town's best sandwich maker.

Two pieces of bread, some protein, and some vegetables. It all sounds so simple, but the devourer of a delicious sandwich knows it's usually much more complicated.

We want to know which local sandwich shop is your favorite place to get a bread encased food delivery device (sandwich). We're limiting the Best Sandwich Shop poll to, well, sandwich shops/bakeries. Imperfect, we know, so there's a twist this week.

We're also looking for the best actual sandwich on any menu. ANY Monrovia non-chain restaurant is in the running for the title of Monrovia's Best Sandwich. Just name your favorite sandwich in the comments, and the most mentioned sandwich will be recognized as the very best in town.

As a courtesy to his readers, Monrovia Patch's hungry editor also promises to eat the winning sandwich.

So who's the best sandwich maker? And what's the best sandwich in town?

Gene's! Gene's! Gene's! The Chicken sandwich and fries are hands down the best!
Jessica Larsen-Terrell April 27, 2012 at 05:00 PM
My mother has been taking me to Gene's Grinders since i was in her womb. I am now 28 years old and know the owner, Andy, who he has pretty much watched me grow up, always greet me with a smile. I do not live in the area anymore, but whenever I am local, Gene's Grinders is a must...

Gene's combo! The bread is second to none.

Jay- no it's not a chain. Alex, the founder, is there every day.

Oh and market grill's angry beast has my vote!

Gene's takes it beyond the classic ham or turkey sandwich, by perfecting the Pastrami, polska, milanesa and the chicken breast sandwhich! By far the best of all Monrovia!

Nathan, you need to add Market Grill to the list so we can vote for it. They have phenomenal food!

For a couple of nontraditional (Americana, but not other cultures), there are great sandwiches at T-Burgers (Chicken Gyro is great as is their Avocado BLT), Daphne's Street Pitas are wonderful (espcially chicken), and the Avo BLT and Jim's is also quite good. And now I'm hungry. Got hooked on Market Grill's burgers as a result of a prior poll and was in there for the second time last week with grandson. Going to have to go back and try some of the other sandwiches. Burger was just so good, but I did think the prices on the sandwiches were a pinch high. Will have to try to see if the quality raved here matches the price and volume.

Market Grill 100%. They have the best Chicken sandwich, the Chicken California, hands down. Love it and the people serving it. Thanks Market Grill!

Da Sauce TV has filmed at both places and it is a tough call. The Pan Con Bistec is a great tasting sandwich and so is the Angry Beast. I think that we will stay out of this one!

I can eat out at Something Healthy everyday and not feel guilty. My love for their sandwiches is split between the Sun-dried turkey and the turkey pesto panini.

Two of my favorite sandwich shops are Gene's Grinders (Chicken, Pastrami, and Milinesa) and The Market Grill (Bacon Lettuce Onion Avocado Tomato aka. BLOAT and Chicken Onion Avocado Spinach Tomato aka COAST). Really surprised you left out The Market Grill on your poll. Gene's also has the benifit of having football aka soccer on the telly...

Peach Cafe AND Old Town Bistro should have made the cut (no pun intended) as to the top sandwich makers...but, given previous comments, I'm heading to Market Grill NOW!
Anna Banana April 28, 2012 at 08:54 PM
Absolutely the Market Grill. All of their sandwiches are amazing but if I had to pick a single one I would vote for the Jive Turkey.

Wow...what can I say bout Gene's Grinder, let me tell ya...I haven't lived in the area since I was 9yrs old in '89, til this day I still drive from San Bernardino County just for the best sandwiches ever in my life, I've tried others and they will never compare to Gene's, gave up that search a long time ago, if I want a sandwich, my 20-30 min drive is worth the trip, you can't go wrong at Gene's Grinders, my loyalty to Gene's Grinders for many more yrs to come, my 9yr old loves it too. Pls vote for Gene's Grinders as you will love it too <3

This cannot possibly be an accurate poll without the Market Grill. They have several of my favorite sandwiches!!!! You need to add them to the list.
Namaste April 29, 2012 at 08:14 PM
I find it amazing how a poll about sandwiches can draw so much attention and passion. I guess we know what's important in peoples lives. :-)
Therese B. May 11, 2012 at 09:45 PM
It's too bad that the best sandwich places aren't even listed here!!! Market Grill and Peach Cafe are the best!!!! Market grill makes really the BEST burger, Peach Cafe has the best of everything and T Phillips has an awesome Calif. Chick sand!! If we're gonna pick the best...lets at least have them all listed to give them a chance!!!! :)
