Video: Meet the Owner of Brio Electric Bikes and See The Merchandise in Action

The shop opened on Olive Avenue a few weeks ago.

Keith Stephens has been riding electric bikes for 15 years and three weeks ago he sarted selling them in Monrovia.

Brio Electric Bikes recently opened in the 100 block of east Olive Avenue and the shop already has a big local customer: the city of Monrovia. The city is in the process of buying two electric bicycles for park rangers to use in Canyon Park.

Retailing for between $1,700 and $4,000, the bikes run on lithium ion batteries that can be plugged into standard electrical outlets to recharge.

"In the last three years the technology has really taken off," Stephens said.

The bikes have become popular in Europe and along the California coast and Stephens hopes they take off in Monrovia.
