Who Makes Monrovia's Best Burger?

Readers can weigh in and vote for their favorite local burger joint. The winner gets named "Patch's Best" burger, complete with a nifty certificate to show off.

Monrovia is an All-America city, and what's more All-American than a cheeseburger?

There are plenty of places to chow down on delicious burgers in town, but now's your chance to vote for the best. Voting will take place until Thursday night, and the winning "steamed ham" will be crowned next Friday when a new dish is voted upon.

So don't just vote for your favorite--tell us why it's the best. The triumphant restaurant (chains excluded) will be named "Patch's Best" burger and receive a certificate to display for bragging rights, as will all subsequent winners.

Mmm...cheeseburgers.

My choice is the Market Grill based on the experience of ordering and enjoying their delicious burgers there. It feels like what a burger joint should be.
Dave-O February 3, 2012 at 07:52 pm
Sad to see "Troy's Burger and Donuts" didn't make the list.

Market Grill, hands down. I've been to all of the others, and they've shown me love, but not like the Market Grill. Awesome service, the friendliest staff, and the best burgers I've ever had. I recommend the place to all my friends, I send co-workers, bosses, anyone and everyone I meet. From fresh baked buns to hand ground beef, home made sauces and desserts, and the most delicious soups this side of heaven, it's almost unfair to put them against the other guys since The Market Grill is in a class all its own.

THE MARKET GRILL!! Not only is the food SECOND TO NONE, but the service is amazing and the staff members make you feel like family. No matter how busy it is - you are warmly welcomed and feel as if you are their favorite customer! ....and the food - INCREDIBLE!! I seriously dream about the burgers, sandwiches, sauces (OH THE RANCH!!!), and desserts. #1 - FOR SURE!

Market Grill...not only a great burger, but the owners are the best -- truly supportive members of the community and willing to help support people and organizations in need. Thanks Tracy & Alex!

Burger Basket's Teriyaki burger is the best. Served up fast at a great price by the same people who have been doing it for as long as anyone I know can remember.
Jill Ramirez February 3, 2012 at 11:41 pm
Has anyone tried the Poblano burger at Sena? It is very good!! In fact I had the same burger at the Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood for 3 times as much!! As for the Market Grill, I must have been the only one in Monrovia that was turned away both times I approached them regarding fundraising opportunities. One time in fact was just to see if they wanted free advertising space on a discount card for the Soccer team at no cost to them. Sadly I haven't been back in there since.
Tanya Caro February 4, 2012 at 12:14 pm
The Market Grill has the best burgers without a doubt!!!!
lisa s February 4, 2012 at 04:32 pm
I agree with Jill. Sena's Poblano burger is the best burger I have had in Monrovia! Gooey cheese sauce, nice blend of chilis so you get the smokey flavors and just the right balance of heat. Nice size burger that is moist and flavorful. Hands down the best and I've had all the burgers mentioned above.

I live right next door to the Market Grill, and by far they have been the best, and delicious, neighbors I have ever had. Their handmade desserts are most wonderful.
Andrew Herrera February 4, 2012 at 08:23 pm
Market grill is the best. Everything is fresh from the buns to the burger
Di Moraga February 4, 2012 at 08:50 pm
Wow, seems like most of these people are not true Monrovians. Its burger basket all the way. Fresh and juicy with a great special sauce and friendly owners.
janet February 4, 2012 at 11:10 pm
Market Grill by far! Great quality meat ground by the crew. Fresh buns. An altogether outstanding burger every time!!!!
Chris B February 5, 2012 at 12:22 am
Sena on Myrtle! Ridiculously delicious.
Vince February 5, 2012 at 12:28 am
Bacon Cheddar Burger at The Market Grill is juicy fresh and made to order! Not just the best burger in Monrovia but in the SGV!!!!!
Melanie Ward February 5, 2012 at 03:08 am
Could not agree more Dave-O. Great American burger with wonderful, friendly service.
Gayle M. Montgomery February 5, 2012 at 04:42 am
You left off the Widow Maker off at Claim Jumper which, during Happy Hour, is only $7. Add $2 for fries, or $4 for Irish Nachos (adds cheese and bacon and really serves 2 or 3, comes with a complimentary heart attack, LOL), and a mini Caesar for $2, and you have a super meal.
Marlena Waid February 5, 2012 at 01:58 pm
T Philips burgers are the best! They are huge, juicy, and delicious with a great variety to choose from. The beers good too!
Sonia Guerrero February 8, 2012 at 02:57 pm
Jake's Roadhouse has the best burgers I've ever tasted. You can taste the quality in their meat and in the ingredients they use.
Teo Gomez February 8, 2012 at 03:34 pm
Hands down Jake's Roadhouse in Monrovia has the best burgers around. I drive all the way to Monrovia from Pasadena just for there burgers and there's alot of burger joints in Pasadena .
Angelica February 8, 2012 at 05:16 pm
Jake's Roadhouse! seriously when I think of Burgers, I can't imagine going anywhere else! My favorite is the bacon burger because of the quality of the meat. There's no better patty or bacon than at Jake's Roadhouse people! Do yourselves a favor and visit this gem in Old Town Monrovia!
John February 8, 2012 at 05:47 pm
Jakes Roadhouse is the best burger place in Monrovia! I work as a butcher and know that they use good quality meat beacause you can taste it. Very friendly place and got to love that you can eat peanuts and throw the shells on the floor.
Omar Garcia February 8, 2012 at 05:49 pm
One place, JAKE'S ROADHOUSE! I hate biting into a burger and it either tasting too dry or too fatty! At Jake's I have never encountered this problem. Why? Because they only buy quality meat! And the cheese! Delicious!!!!! Don't you hate when you eat a burger and there's more bread than meat? Yeah me too! But at Jake's, it's the perfect burger!
Gayle M. Montgomery February 8, 2012 at 06:23 pm
This sudden infusion of Jake's Roadhouse makes me wonder if there's not a sign inside that says vote for us, get a coupon for a free burger (smile).
Alex February 8, 2012 at 06:33 pm
My vote is for Jake's Roadhouse. I have eaten at most of the places listed, and their is no comparison to Jake's. Even better than the Market Grill. I like a good bacon cheese burger and hands down it is the best. Juicy thick meat and killer strips of bacon. Been going their since 2000 and has always been my favorite restaurant.
greg scherr February 8, 2012 at 08:09 pm
No coupon just good food, the bacon on the bacon burger is good thick bacon, and the patty itself is just good fresh meat, they are known for the BBQ but the burgers are as good. Go there hungry though because you will get a big fresh tasty burger, enjoy.

See other post about this: It needed to happen...(Ancient Burial Ground that was desecrated) but IRead More maintain we should get some sort of "cleansing" or burn some incense/sage or call for an exorcism. I believe the evil mojo needs to be banished before we build again.........

Hi Therese, I am good friends with Star Shields. He is a busy face painter, and often needs back-upRead More either at the Summer festival in Laguna Beach, now underway, or with one of his other commitments. If you're interested, I would be happy to give you his contact details via email.
Therese B. June 8, 2013 at 11:08 pm
Hi Donna! Star is a good friend of mine too!!! He is more an airbrush artist (and a darn goodRead More one!!) then a face painter. But he is truly a legend in his craft. I have been lucky enough to work with him and learn from him too! I just wish he wasn't so far away :( Nice to hear from you!

Old fashioned country vet "patchin' up" was some of the cool stuff I was taught growingRead More up. Splinting a bird's wing or leg, getting a thorn out of a slightly infected cat or dog paw was part of learning. I am NOT saying to eliminate/not see a REAL vet, however some things can be handled at home with a bit of basic medical knowledge and Bactine/hot clean water and towels/tweezers and some loving hands to hold Fido or Snowball when you can do it yourself. I am already bracing myself for the angry openly hostile messages this post might draw, so it's OK if you feel the need to do so. Watching some of my older friends who have limited income spend THOUSANDS of dollars for a beloved pet out of pressure/and what I call "pusher's guilt" sorta made me feel like mentioning that in the old days, some of the animal care was done by a wise farm woman/man...not all vets are crooks, and not all pet needs need put you in the poor house.

I love the old farmers remedies, particularly for mange however when dealing with elderly animalsRead More and certain conditions you just get around it. The farmers remedies are often slow working causing more pain then an animal needs to go through. I try holistic meds quite often for some bacterial infections and they are slow too. Cats in particular are difficult treat. They are great in some situations but in others the it is not appropriate. I will attempt the at home first then the vet. My recent situation was a neglected kitty I rescued with a 1.25 lb cyst I had no idea she had the cyst just thought she was matted. I was trying to get her shaved. Kitty's don't cooperate for though things. One thing led to another she ends up on the operating table. No rescue groups would help me and that's where my anger is directed. I have been donating to different groups monthly for more then 20 years. At one point three different groups at the same time. No one helped me when I needed it. I'm done.
rubberband June 8, 2013 at 11:31 pm
@Lynn: Reading your posts I felt some anger FOR you. HUGE animal lover here, and ALL my pets areRead More rescues/fosters except for the Robo dwarf hamster. Love my cats, and know there just some things you can't do to a kitty without risking kitty AND your own safety. What you have experienced was pretty much the exact thing I saw some older friends go thru...Care about their pets, want to get help, and can't seem to get any or get SOME but with hidden costs and "guilt trips" at the end. If no one said it, thanks for helping critters out and giving when you could. Sorry it was not rewarded.

I've recently spoken to Gayle. She's fine, just taking a bit of a mental hygiene breather.
Buzlightyear aka marty June 1, 2013 at 12:11 am
I am glad to hear she is good. I don't do facebook so I will simply take it that she will commentRead More again. She was my first "Patch" debate with someone on the other side of issues......You know, sentimental thing for your first time.... LOL. Just tell her Buzzlightyear "Marty" said hi if either of you two talk to her.
Buzlightyear aka marty June 2, 2013 at 03:45 pm
genevieve, and ping, You must have misread my post. I was joking that the bears were being countedRead More as if they (the bears) were part of the total population (of people)count. Then.....they stopped counting the bears as part of the population of people. A joke is not funny when explained.....it was almost funny before. Just give me an Opra ah-ha moment.....
genevieve June 2, 2013 at 07:15 pm
I didn't respond correctly, I guess. Maybe I had the wrong post, sorry. Of course bears aren'tRead More counted. I meant, as far as population of HUMANS it is expensive to live in California. Monrovia is a wonderful city bears and all. It is expensive to live pretty much anywhere in Calif.
rubberband June 3, 2013 at 01:14 pm
@ Buzlightyear aka marty...I disagree....explaining THIS joke made it even more funny.Read More ............You are officially FUNNY. >9000 srsly.
