Local Flood Advisory Issued by National Weather Service

The National Weather Service issued a flood advisory for the eastern part of Los Angeles County as thunderstorms move in east from the San Fernando Valley.

The National Weather Service has issued a flood advisory warning for a portion of Los Angeles County that includes Monrovia as heavy thunderstorms move east from the San Fernando Valley.

The advisory is in effect until 3 p.m. Friday.

A LINE OF THUNDERSTORMS EXTENDING FROM SANTA MONICA TO THE FOOTHILLS IN SAN FERNANDO VALLEY WILL CONTINUE MOVING EAST AND MOVE OVER THE EAST PORTION OF LOS ANGELES COUNTY THROUGH 2 PM PDT. THE HEAVIEST RAIN RATES WERE BETWEEN ONE HALF INCH TO THREE QUARTERS OF AN INCH. URBAN AND SMALL STREAM FLOODING WILL BEGIN TO RECEDE OVER THE WEST PORTION OF COASTAL LOS ANGELES COUNTY THROUGH 2 PM PDT. THE THREAT OF URBAN AND SMALL STREAM FLOODING WILL INCREASE OVER THE EAST HALF THROUGH 2 PM AND PERSIST THROUGH 3 PM.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

EXCESSIVE RUNOFF FROM HEAVY RAINFALL WILL CAUSE ELEVATED LEVELS ON SMALL CREEKS AND STREAMS...AND PONDING OF WATER IN URBAN AREAS... HIGHWAYS...STREETS AND UNDERPASSES AS WELL AS OTHER POOR DRAINAGE AREAS AND LOW LYING SPOTS.
