Monrovia Baton Twirler Wins 'Miss Majorette of California'

A local baton twirler is headed to nationals.

Monrovia baton twirler Elyssa Santano has won the "Miss Majorette of California" tournament and will compete at Notre Dame University at a national level.

Santano is part of an independent baton twirling team that competes locally and travels and she also plans to twirl in the 2013  International Cup in the Netherlands, according to her mother Rose Santano.

"She practices for hours on end and we're very proud and happy for her," Rose Santano wrote in an email.

Santano is a senior at Monrovia High School.
