Monrovia police officers will carry the Special Olympics torch through the city and hand it off to Arcadia officers on Thursday.

Officers from the Monrovia Police Department will carry the Special Olympics torch through the city Thursday and pass it on to officers in Arcadia during the Law Enforcement Torch Run.

Monrovia officers will receive the torch between 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. and then carry it 4.2 miles across the city to make the hand-off, according to the Monrovia Police Department's website.

"The mission of the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics is to increase awareness and raise funds for the Special Olympics movement," the site states. "The Southern California Law Enforcement Torch Run involves more than 2,000 officers who proudly carry the Special Olympics Torch more than 500 miles, through more than 150 communities."

The torch's final destination is Cal State Long Beach, where the Summer Special Olympics Games will be held on June 8.
