'Starving' Cat Missing for 2 Months Reunites With Local Owner

The 9-year-old cat was went missing two months ago before he was found by a local resident in a gutter on Monday.

A black and white male 9-year-old cat found in a gutter by a local resident Monday turned out to be a house cat that had gone missing two months ago, a local shelter owner said.

The local resident brought the scrawny and emaciated cat into Highlander Pet Center Monday. Jill Jungheim, owner of the center, said the cat appeared to be "starving to death" because he'd been out on the streets for so long.

"The first thing that we did was open up a can of cat food and he just scarfed it down," Jungheim said.

Since the cat was very friendly with people, Jungheim assumed he had gone missing from a home.

"He was really sweet, you could tell that he had belonged to somebody," she said. "I knew that he wasn't a wild cat because he was so comfortable around people."

Jungheim brought him into the , where the vet determined the cat had a microchip implanted by the Pasadena Humane Society.

Jungheim called the Humane Society and got the phone number of a local woman listed as the cat's owner. When she reached the woman, she learned that "Cyrus" the cat had been missing for two months.

"He was just an indoor cat that had slipped out by accident one night," she said.

The owner of the cat plans to pick him up Tuesday evening, Jungheim said. Though he was found in a gutter near Hillcrest and Alta Vista Avenues, the owner lives on Olive Avenue, she said.

"He had traveled quite a long way," Jungheim said.

Highlander Pet Center is located at 419 W. Foothill Boulevard and will be hosting another pet adoption fair Saturday. For more information, call 626-357-1787.
