San Gabriel Valley Choral Company Presents "Tell It!"

A Choral Celebration of America’s Folk Music Heritage.

Monrovia, CA. (May 13. 2013) The San Gabriel Valley Choral Company presents a concert entitled “Tell It!”  Complete with soloists and instrumentalists, this rousing concert features folk songs, spirituals, and American classics by Aaron Copland, Stephen Foster, and more.  Tickets are now available at the cost of $9 to $15 for two performances:  June 8 at 6:15 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Monrovia and June 15 at 5:00 p.m. at All Saints Church in Pasadena.  More information can be found at www.choralcompany.org or by calling 626-579-2433.

The June 8 performance in Monrovia will be an informal setting that includes a silent auction with refreshments at 6:15 p.m. and the concert at 7:00 p.m.  The evening will feature the inaugural presentation of the Alexander Ruggieri Memorial Scholarship composition prize, with a performance by the winner.  The June 15 concert in Pasadena (concert only) will feature the inaugural presentation of the Alexander Ruggieri Memorial Scholarship vocal performance prize, with a performance by the winner.  

About SGVCC’s Artistic Director: Zanaida Robles served for five years as the director of classical choirs at the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts (LACHSA).  She remains on faculty at LACHSA as an instructor of vocal fundamentals while pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in choral music at the University of Southern California (USC).  As a DMA Teaching Assistant at USC, she directs the USC Thornton University Chorus. Ms. Robles also directs Discovery Camerata and served for three years as director of the MusicUNTOLD Chorale. She has prepared choirs for performances with such artists as Josh Groban, Kristin Chenoweth, Audra McDonald, and Wayne Brady.

About SGVCC: Founded in 1995, the San Gabriel Valley Choral Company is a non-profit choir based in Monrovia, CA. The Choral Company performs three to four concerts per year, singing a broad repertoire that includes classical, spirituals, pop, jazz, opera, folk music, and musical theater. Comprised of singers from throughout the Southland, the choir provides an opportunity for its members to challenge themselves and to share their love of music with San Gabriel Valley residents.
