Patch Blog: Crimemapping Goes Live, But Where's Social Media?

CrimeMapping comes to Monrovia, great to see the problems and trends from a Neighborhood Watch perspective.

I get it, its a slow process transitioning from the Johnson era to the new one being led by Jim Hunt. about MPD engaging the community with social media and the first step took place today with the launch of CrimeMapping.

CrimeMapping is a nifty website showing what is going on in town crime wise.  Yup, that homicide last week, north of Foothill, is there.  As are drug offenses, auto burglary and a ton of vandalism all over town signified by a spray paint can.  Nice to see what we are up against, as graphic as it is.

My question is what comes next for us?  Any chance of Nixle ala Arcadia and other cities around us coming? Something more real time a la Twitter maybe? Instantaneous would be nice as I hear sirens every day running up Canyon towards Hillcrest in the morning and afternoon and am most curious what that is all about.

Regardless I'm not the cynical one and see this as great progress.  Knowing what is going on in town and where is great from a Neighborhood Watch perspective.
