The Arty Things in Monrovia Keep our Creativity Flowing.

Art makes the creative world go round and is just plain fun.

I have to admit I'm a sucker when it comes to art events and attend many often.  Some as an artist some as just a lover of art.  Regardless what event it is I get jazzed to create more.

Monrovia has an interesting project coming up wherein Photoworks by Rick will provide a group of old school film cameras to people wanting to photograph Monrovia.  For those involved  it will include the film, processing, gallery reception and a published book of select images.  Of course there is a $75 fee for all of this, but its there to cover all the expenses and you don't walk away empty handed...you get the negatives and set of basic prints at the end to prove you partook.  I think the best part of this is the group capturing where Monrovia is in a group snapshot and preserving the moment in history.  All the details you could want are HERE in the Monrovia Weekly article.

I have wanted to do similar with the school kids in Monrovia over the years.  The idea is to have a group of kids from the various school participate.  Give them a disposable camera and let them loose in town to capture what they think is important.  Kids would bring such a fresh perspective of what we look like.  In the end I've run into several stumbling blocks the biggest is finding a sponsor to provide us with some disposable cameras and the processing. Sigh it always comes to money and the lack there of.  Someday hopefully a sponsor of such will appear.

More on the art front here in town.  The  Monrovia Association of Fine Art's Summer Art Walks are just around the corner.  Held the last Saturday of June, July and August these events attract artists and visitors from around the area.  They are always festive and full of great art.  The demonstrations and interactive art always draw huge crowds.  More on the Art Walks can be found on the MAFA web page.

In the works will be another joint paint-a-thon by Heather Shaw and myself at one of the Art Walks.  A paint-a-thon involves the two of us with two canvases.  We take turns painting on each others canvas and invite the crowd to participate with us.  We did this twice last year and as artists had a ton of fun working with everyone from the crowd as each swap or new person added new elements that changed the final product.  It looks like we'll be doing one of the later Art Walks...when we decide we'll share the deets with you.

In the end it comes down to having fun exploring what you can create or watching what others have done.  Monrovia has plenty of opps for that!
