Blog: The Public Deserves More Than Senator Liu's Silence

Gil Gonzales, Candidate for State Senate in District 25: I invite my opponent, Carol Liu, to participate in public forums and debates, where she has been questionably absent in recent weeks.

I have a history of public service and job creation; I invite Senator Liu to engage in a debate to lay out our respective positions for the 25th District.  Over the past couple weeks I have emphasized the contradicting nature of Carol Liu’s support for tax increases, while also having had a $10 million dollar tax shelter in the Cayman Islands.  In Op-Eds, I vehemently asked why she did not disclose this information on her public reporting documents as required by law.  Senator Liu has remained silent on this issue. Why?  I trust voters will decide how important this matter of non-disclosure is when they cast their ballots on November 6th.

This tax issue alone does not disqualify Senator Liu from being an effective public servant for the 25th District. Candidates for public office must inform the community on their position on vital issues. It is crucial we engage voters during these difficult economic times, which makes me wonder why Senator Liu refuses to attend forums and debates. As constituents, we all need to discuss the responsibilities of public servants and how our individual vision will improve the state. Senator Liu has a record to explain and her complete refusal to participate in public forums and debates is disappointing. If she won’t take part in these discussions, how can voters know how her policies will affect the 25th District? As leaders, our duty is to serve you and represent your interests.

I possess the vision and experience to take on real education reform, create jobs and implement policies that support a stronger economy. I have a plan to get you and your neighbors back to work by advocating for small businesses. Additionally, I pledge to ensure government is accountable with your hard earned tax dollars. What our state needs more than anything are committed public servants with a clear vision to lead our state in job creation and elevating education for our students. We should accept nothing less and silence by an elected official on all of the above is unacceptable. I ask you not to be silent on election day, your vote is your voice.

Wow - what an insulting, non-constructive post. You live in a city whose citizens banded together toRead More tax themselves to save it Foothill wilderness, raised funds to renovate its schools and to build a state of the art library. The fact that one one single event in the year didn't go the way you wanted made you ashamed to be a Monrovian suggests you need to seriously rethink your priorities in life. As the first response said, quit complaining and get involved. Its not very hard in this city to find out how to volunteer if you had given it a slight effort. And the volunteer groups like the one that put the event together are starving for help since tearing people down is a lot more popular these days than putting in hard work. You are the one who should be ashamed.

Who was that face painter? She was really good with the kids, even the wiggly ones. She also wasRead More giving away little handmaid mermaids. Some of the stuff at the celebration was cool. I think next year the city council should be the dunkees for the dunk booth.

A California city will never prevail in a lawsuit against the STATE. All CA. cities must merge toRead More sue in mass under Federal RICO laws while we still have Federal laws. Filing alone at the State level is useless. Wake up people.
