Friends of the Monrovia Public Library Annual Membership Meeting

Join other Friends for a wine and cheese social followed by our annual membership meeting on Wednesday, May 16 from 6-7:30pm. Carol Kampe, Librarian, share the wonder of the new Microform Preservation and Digitization Station which was the Friends capital grant to the Library in 2011.

The ScanPro 2000 replaces the library's old unit with a compact, desktop box which sends images to a computer screen. From the screen easy icons allows image enhancement with a few clicks of a mouse. Editorial features like cropping, contrast, and zoom are included. At this point, documents can simply be read on a computer screen, scanned and saved to the cloud, emailed to someone, or saved to the dedicated computer that is networked to the scanner.

The impact for staff and patrons is considerable. Staff and volunteers can now auto-scanning the oldest and most fragile of the library's archived newspapers into readable documents online. This encourages remote or in-house access to researchers without further damage to already fragile materials. Clear scanned documents on a computer screen means finding results more quickly. Research from staff or patrons may be emailed to user accounts.

A California city will never prevail in a lawsuit against the STATE. All CA. cities must merge toRead More sue in mass under Federal RICO laws while we still have Federal laws. Filing alone at the State level is useless. Wake up people.
