Blog: Donations Requested for MHS NASA Satellite Truck

MHS needs to raise $2000 to offset the unexpected cost of a satellite truck for the Space Station teleconference in March. Rotary is accepting tax deductible donations toward this project.

You may (or may not) be aware based upon a previous Patch news release and a blog post by Kristin Ford that MHS was selected as 1 of 6 schools in the nation that will participate in a satellite broadcast on March 5th where our 5th graders will have the opportunity to speak to astronauts located at the International Space Station (ISS).

In order to secure this honor, MHS committed to provide a satellite truck that will provide the communication between the high school auditorium and the Space Station.  Originally, a satellite truck had been donated, however due to a conflict in scheduling, the donated truck is no longer available on the date of the broadcast.  MHS has secured a contract for another truck at a significant discount but now needs to raise the funds ($2000) to help offset the unexpected cost of the truck.

We are asking for the public's help in donating any amount that you are able to give to help with this truck expense.  The Rotary Club of Monrovia is currently accepting tax deductible donations earmarked for this project to the Monrovia Rotary Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit (EID: 51-0656409).  All money received will be donated toward the cost of the satellite truck.

Please donate on-line at:

Thank you!

I really appreciate the notification for these types of targeted donations. Thanks for the news! Is there anyway we can check progress on how the fund raising is going? I looked on the Rotary website but was unable to find anything. Thanks again!

Thanks Barb! I don't have a display but will update here on our progress. We are currently at $800 collected including a donation by Rotary. Almost half-way there...Keep it up Monrovia!

Come on Monrovians! Support our students! If you want to see some of the wonderful things our kids are doing, join us at FTC Robotics/Science Expo on March 2 at MHS. Questions? Contact info@monroviamasa.org. Thank you Rotary, Karen and all the donors for your support!

Hi Karen - that's great! I posted this through Patch on Facebook and one friend who is donating asked if there was any way for the public to take part in the event or view it. I promised to check. Perhaps KGEM could cover it in some way so the public could view it? In any case good luck with the fundraising!

Brian, If you look at Kristen Ford's blog mentioned above there is a PDF with the sponsorship opportunities. I think some of them include seats at the event.

Suz - thanks much! You were right of course - there are donor/view options on the PDF on her blog.

We have currently raised $1470! Please repost to your friends so we can reach our goal!

Thanks to a very generous donor we have reached our goal of $2000 for the truck! MASA is still accepting sponsors for the event. If you are interested, information is provided in Kristin Ford's blog. A big thank you to all that helped get the word out and to those that were able to contribute!
