DeVan "Dee" Stringham

DeVan "Dee" Stringham, who grew up in Monrovia, died Dec. 22 at his home in Washington, Utah of lung disease. He was 79.

Stringham was born July 29, 1939 in Upland, Calif. to Minnie Ione Stringham and Briant DeVan Stringham. He grew up in Monrovia, graduating from MAD High School in 1952.

He married Lois Wilkins in 1956 and the couple had two children. The couple was divorced in 1966. He married Judy (Draper) Barker in 1968 and had two more children.

Growing up, Stringham was interested in scouting, sports, hunting, and fishing. After graduating from high school, he played basketball and earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Santa Barbara.  He became a professional fisherman in 1973.

Dr. Leon F. "Lee" Keyser

Dr. Leon F. "Lee Keyser, a former Monrovia resident who retired from NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, died Dec. 15 at his home in Palm Beach, FL. He was 76.

Keyser was born in Waukegan, Ill. on March 23, 1937 to Edward and Mary Keyser. He graduated from Waukegen Township High School in 1955 and earned bachelor's and master's degrees from Notre Dame. He received a doctorate from the California Institute of Technology in 1965.

He retired as a research scientist at the Jet Propulsion Lab for NASA.
