National Fried Chicken Day: 5 Best Chicken Chains

Friday, July 6, is National Fried Chicken Day, the perfect excuse to stuff your face with delicious fried chicken.

National Fried Chicken Day is here and it's time to choose where you'll procure deep-fried bird to celebrate.

The origins of the holiday aren't immediately clear, but why do you need to know why you're celebrating fried chicken? National Fried Chicken Day isn't about research, it's about guiltlessly gobbling up greasy goodness.

Using my fried chicken eating expertise, I've ranked the best chicken chains to help you decide who will provide your chicken fix today.

Nothing beats the delicious flaky batter of Popeye's and the fact that they offer up a spicy version of all their chicken puts them over the top. Love that chicken at Popeye's.

2. Chick-Fil-A

Sadly there are no Chick-Fil-As available locally, but it may be worth the drive to City of Industry to get a fried chicken sandwich for lunch. Think about it. You want to eat it don't you? Here's the address: 21550 Valley Boulevard.

3. KFC

It may be the most popular chicken worldwide, but it's only #3, at best, in my book.

I have no scientific evidence to back this up, but I think Church's has to be the greasiest fried chicken out there (true story: I once bit into a piece and hot grease exploded all over my shirt). High grease factor could be good or bad depending on your tastes, but I prefer a lighter fry.

Say what? Hey, the mega-chain offers up a lot of fried chicken options. The "chicken" McNuggets don't qualify, but how about that Southern Style Crispy Chicken sandwich? Not too shabby.

None of the above! Why eat the same corporate slop? Bill's Chicken 2234 Lincoln Avenue, Pasadena, CA (626) 797-4119 ‎is ABSOLUTELY the best in the area. This is without a doubt the best around here! It's family owned and run and actually tastes like, well, CHICKEN! No gimmicks, no bland greasy gorp covered crap.

the fried chicken at Disneyland's Plaza Inn is pretty good, too.. but a hefty admission price for a chicken dinner! generous portions, though, my husband and I can split a dinner and be satisfied.

Ha! Stephen, I will gladly try Bill's. Since all we have in Monrovia is chicken chains I had to work with what was here, but I'm now excited to branch out.

And for the record, Popeye's truly is wonderful. I live close to it and have to fight off the urge daily at lunch.
