3 Killed on L.A. County Highways During Christmas Weekend

DUI arrests up from previous year, according to CHP.

The California Highway Patrol reported three traffic-related deaths on Los Angeles County highways during this year's Christmas holiday.

The reporting period began at 6:01 p.m. Friday and concluded on Dec. 25 at 6 a.m., according to a department statement.

During that same time last year, there were no traffic-related deaths on Los Angeles County highways, according to the statement.

This year, there were 26 traffic-related deaths statewide, compared with 14 last year.

In Los Angeles County, the CHP reported 257 motorists arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, an increase from last year's total of 201.

Statewide, the CHP reported 1,060 DUI arrests, up from last year's count of 980.
