A man eluded police after an early morning chase through the streets of Monrovia that started when officers discovered the suspect was driving a stolen car.
Police ran the license plate for an Chevy Tahoe and initiated a traffic stop but the car sped away and officers followed in pursuit for several blocks, Monrovia Police Sgt. Don Newton said.
The suspect then got out of the car and ran near Greystone Avenue and Valley View Avenue at about 1:30a.m. Tuesday.
"The guy got out and ran and was able to run faster than we could set up the containment," Newton said.
Police searched yards in the neighborhood but could not locate the man. The stolen vehicle was recovered.
