Brush Fire: Evacuations Lifted for Most Monrovia Hillside Neighborhoods
Evacuation orders remain in place for four hillside neighborhoods.
Residents of many hillside neighborhoods are allowed to return to their homes after mandatory evacuation orders were lifted Saturday evening.
"Evacuation lifted for all neighborhoods EXCEPT Highland, Briar Cliff, Hidden Valley and Alta Vista," the city's official Twitter page announced shortly after 9 p.m. Saturday.
The fire is about 50 percent contained and firefighters expect to make more progress overnight, city spokeswoman Jennifer McClain said

"Things are looking better," McClain said. "We're not seeing the big flames like we saw before."
A shelter remains in place at the Monrovia Community Center for evacuees.

The fire has torched about 175 acres so far, McClain said. Crews will be working tonight to dig lines around the fire to fully contain it, she said.
"Tonight will be a really critical time in getting containment," she said.
