City Combats Vandalism at Grand Avenue Park

The Monrovia Police Department has called a neighborhood watch meeting to discuss recent vandalism at the park.

A rash of vandalism at Grand Avenue Park over the last several weeks has prompted the to host a neighborhood watch meeting Wednesday to raise awareness of the problem.

Residents have reported an increase in etching, graffiti, burned plastic and other damage to play equipment at the secluded park on Grand Avenue, but police have yet to catch the culprits, City Manager Scott Ochoa said in his weekly report released Monday.

"Though park rangers patrol the area on a daily basis, they have not been able to apprehend whoever is responsible for the damage," Ochoa wrote.

Signs posted throughout the park notifying residents to a neighborhood watch meeting planned for 7 p.m. Wednesday at the . In an example of the problem, one of the signs fastened to the staircase leading to the park had been torn down Monday.

Ochoa said the goal of the meeting is to get residents to be on alert for people who may be causing the graffiti and other damage at the park.

"In response, we need to get the neighbors involved in helping alert rangers and police when people are in the park at night or if individuals appear to be using the equipment in an unsafe and/or inappropriate manner," Ochoa wrote.
