Depressed Man Evaluated After Girl Believed He Was About to Jump

Man was standing next to a storm channel when girl saw him.

Police have taken a young man to medical facility for mental evaluation after a worried girl believed he was going to jump into a nearby flood channel.

Authorities received the call around 10:10 p.m. that the man appeared to want to jump into the flood channel located in the 600 block of West Duarte Road. According to scanner reports, the girl, who was not identified because of her age, allegedly held the man after she believed he was going to jump.

Officers arrived and spoke with the 18-year-old man who reported he never told anybody he was going to jump in, said Lieutenant Jaime Alfaro of . The man revealed he was suffering some personal, family issues and was just standing near the wash.

"Officers determined he was depressed, so they transported him to a medical facility to be evaluated for 72 hours," Alfaro said.
