Glendora Man Arrested for Striking Monrovia Cyclist With Car

A Glendora man has been arrested for assault with a deadly weapon after allegedly hitting a cyclist with his car early Saturday morning, then overturning his vehicle on the 210 Freeway while fleeing the scene.

Glendora Patch reported Saturday that the driver hit a pedestrian around the intersection of Huntington and Mountain and after doing "donuts" around him before fleeing the scene and overturning his red Mini Cooper on the 210 Freeway, near North Vernon Avenue.

The Pasadena Star-News reported Sunday that the man, 19-year-old Anthony Pina deliberately hit the pedestrian, a cyclist, and hit another cyclist in unincorporated Monrovia.

After the crash on the 210 Freeway, callers reported seeing the suspect run up an embankment and climb a retaining wall on the 210 Freeway, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Azusa police officers eventually caught up with the suspect on Virginia Avenue, at Third Street; the suspect was bloody and medics were called to tend him, the CHP reported.

The suspect was taken to Foothill Presbyterian Hospital for treatment and officers followed the ambulance to the emergency room, the CHP reported.
According to the Star-News, the cyclist hit in unincorporated Monrovia suffered minor injuries but the one hit on Mountain Avenue was badly injured.

Pina is being held in county jail on $50,000 bail, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department inmate locator.
