A fire erupted at an Irwindale quarry Monday evening, sending thick, black plumes of smoke over Monrovia as firefighters battled the blaze from multiple angles.
Citing safety concerns, an officer from the Irwindale Police Department barred reporters from accessing the quarry at 1245 Arrow Highway in Irwindale. The site is operated by United Rock Products, according to a sign posted outside the property.
Eric Evans, who was listed as a representative of the company on that sign, said that the company would be releasing a statement about the fire when they had more information.
"Right now we're assessing the situation," Evans said.
