The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, which serves unincorporated Monrovia, was recently awarded a grant to bolster its Selective Traffic Enforcement Program aimed at increasing traffic safety.
The award of $1.1 million will be executed in conjunction with the Office of Traffic Safety for the Sheriff's Risk Management Bureau's Fiscal Year, from Oct. 1 2013 to Sept. 30, 2014.
Such activities executed with the grant include driving under the influence saturation patrols, distracted driving, traffic enforcement, motorcycle safety, red light enforcement, and speed enforcement operations, to reduce the number of persons killed and injured in alcohol and drug-involved traffic collisions, and to reduce the number of hit and run fatality and injury collisions, officials said.
The grant will be used to fund salary and overtime for personnel working during these traffic operations, including such training and equipment needed during the operations.
