Man Who Died in 210 Crash Thursday Identified

Authorities today identified the drivers of two big rigs killed in separate crashes along a stretch of the Foothill (210) Freeway in Pasadena.

The first crash occurred about 12:10 a.m. Thursday on the two-lane underground transition road from the eastbound 210 Freeway to the continuation of the eastbound 210 Freeway, the California Highway Patrol reported.

Gerald Hall, 58, of Arroyo Grande died at the scene, said coroner's Assistant Chief Ed Winter. The crash involved three big rigs and three other vehicles, said CHP Officer Alex Rubio.

Transition lanes at the location were blocked for nearly 24 hours as crews worked to clear the scene.

The second big rig fatality was reported at 2:57 a.m. Thursday about four miles east on the eastbound 210 Freeway. It  prompted the closure of the Metro Gold Line between Pasadena's Allen and Sierra Madre Villa stations.

Oscar Avila-Reyes, 33, of Moreno Valley died at the scene, Winter said.

Debris from that crash, in which a big rig struck the freeway center divider, littered the adjoining Gold Line tracks, which run down the center of the freeway. Both the man's body and the big rig's trailer ended up on the tracks, according to the CHP.

Rail service along a stretch of tracks was interrupted, and a bus bridge was established to ferry passengers around the area. Service was restored about noon.
