Monrovia Celebrates Safely: Police Report Zero July 4th DUI Arrests

No one was arrested for driving under the influence on the 4th of July in Monrovia, according to police.

Holiday nights often result in an uptick in DUI arrests but no one in Monrovia was arrested for driving under the influence on July 4th, according to police.

The only alcohol related arrest on Wednesday night came when a 52-year-old man was picked up for being drunk in public, according to Monrovia Police Sgt. Dan Verna.

"Any of the holidays, DUIs usually go up but I don't know why they didn't get any last night," Verna said.

Monrovia participates in the that netted nearly 500 DUI arrests since it began Friday. But none of those arrests came within city limits on Wednesday.

The 4th of July is one of the deadliest holidays of the year for motorists, according to Wendy Brewer of the Avoid the 100 DUI Campaign.
