Monrovia PD Finalist for Community Policing Award

The Monrovia Police Department is in the running to win the James Q. Wilson Award for Excellence in Community Policing.

The Monrovia Police Department was named as a finalist this week for a state community policing award that honors local departments that embrace a community building approach to law enforcement.

Judges for the James Q. Wilson Award for Excellence in Community Policing identify finalists based on "topics of problem-solving, partnership with the community, partnership with public and private organizations/agencies, institutionalization of the community policing philosophy, and results," according to a department news release.

Monrovia police instituted community policing in the department in 1991 and have since touted programs like Chaplains for At-Risk Youth (CARY), the Monrovia Anti-Gang Intervention Committee (MAGIC), the Duarte and Monrovia Anti-Gang Enforcement (DAMAGE), and the Formative Years Program.
