A threat to the campus of Santa Fe Middle School prompted a lockdown today.

At 2 p.m., the Monrovia Police Department received a call from a man who claimed to have an AK-47 and be on campus, Lt. Michael Lee said.

Officers responded to the scene at 148 W. Duarte Road, issued the lockdown,  and conducted a search of all unlocked buildings. The lockdown continues while students are being escorted off of campus, he said.

"Right now the safety of the children is our first concern," he said, adding that once the students are off campus, the search will continue.

Lee said the initial search indicates that the threat was not likely a credible one.  The investigation continues.

Anyone with any information is encouraged to call the Monrovia Police Department at 626-256-8000.
