Monrovia Police Officer Crashes Car into Tree

Police say the officer had to swerve to avoid a car coming toward him.

A Monrovia Police officer smashed his police cruiser into a tree Sunday afternoon after swerving to avoid a car, authorities said.

The officer was responding to an emergency call and had the car's lights and sirens on when another driver pulled in front of him near the intersection of Ivy Avenue and Walnut Avenue, Monrovia Police Sgt. Glen Coleman said.

"As the officer was driving with lights and siren out there ... a person pulled out in front of him and in order to avoid hitting a car, he swerved and hit a tree," Coleman said.

No one was injured in the wreck, Coleman said. He said it was too early to tell if the driver would be cited or charged with anything because of the collision.

"The good thing is that the officer didn’t collide with him and there’s no major injury or anything," he said.
