Monrovia Teen Fights Off Would-Be Robber with his Skateboard

A knife-wielding man attempting to rob a Monrovia teenager was foiled when the youth fought back with his skateboard.

The teen was in the courtyard of an apartment building in the 100 block of West Colorado Boulevard at around 9:10 p.m. Thursday night when he was approached by a man with a knife, reported the San Gabriel Valley Tribune.

The suspect demanded the skateboard and then fled after the teen struck him with it, reported the newspaper.

It will be interesting to see how the Goldine extension ultimately impacts the city.

@81 Regarding the Gold Line. The homeless are considered handy-capped by most law enforcement officers. For that reason they are given a pass on the pay to ride requirement on metro. It isn't worth the effort to impose a fine which will never be paid. The toll officers and metro will deny it but it's a fact. Kinda like you can't get blood out of a turnip and there's no turnip to take.

It's getting dangerous out there! That's why I carry a pepper spray everywhere I go. You can buy one here if you're interested: www.defendertech.us

Jenny ... Many companies sell pepper spray. Because it's readily available does not mean everybody should purchase it believing they can/will effectively use it when needed. The majority of users of pepper end up spraying themselves in the face with little effect in stopping an attacker. Training in the use of pepper sometimes involves getting sprayed. After that one is for sure ready to learn how and when to use that stuff to accomplish the desired results. Jenny please get some training on how to use pepper spray. You won't regret it. BTW ... the warning label and instructions on the can is not considered training.

Jenny, this is NOT an attack or a reprimand...It IS a PLEASE hear what both Dan and I are going to advise:PLEASE do get training with the spray... I teach extreme assault survival and rape prevention...and unless people get trained to carry it, we tell them not to buy it....getting some aggression training using your voice and some protective behaviors and most of all PRACTICING these maneuvers is extremely important. If people don't practice these skills, when an attack happens, the likelihood that they will be able to use the spray or a skill set they read about go down to zero...If you pull out pepper spray, and the predator perceives it is your first time or that you aren't fluent in protection, (because attackers ATTACK, they are very astute at sensing how much you mean to carry thru a counter attack) the chances the spray will be taken from you and used against you are very high. Pepper spray is effective, please get training!
