Update Monday 6:55 p.m.: After reviewing video tape evidence, police have reduced the charges against Mahalingam to hit-and-run with injury.
Sunday: Monrovia police have arrested a 38-year-old man on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon after he allegedly hit another man with his car during the Sunday afternoon Farmer’s Market at 2:20 p.m.
Ganesh Mahalingam of Monrovia apparently became upset after resident Dave Gayman, 63, told him on the 100 block of W. Lime Ave. that the road was closed for the market, and that he couldn’t pass through.
“He didn’t like that,” said Lt. Jaime Alfaro of the “He got angry, and he just ran him over.”
Gayman is in stable condition at Methodist Hospital in Arcadia.
Mahalingam fled the scene after hitting Gayman, Alfaro said, but was arrested on the 100 block of Foothill after a witness followed him to get his license plate number.
