No Leads in Search for Local Woman's Identity

Police have received tips about the identity of a woman found disoriented in a Monrovia restaurant last month, but they've led nowhere.

Police have made no progress in the found in a Monrovia restaurant in April and are continuing to ask for the public's help in determining who the woman is.

The woman has been staying in a mental hospital since she was found behaving erratically on Apr. 24 at the restaurant on Foothill Boulevard and Myrtle Avenue.

Police released a photo of the woman to the media Friday, but no new credible leads have resulted, Monrovia Police Sgt. Don Newton said.

"Nothing at all," he said.

Several Patch readers and suggested that she may be a local transient who has been seen traveling with a male partner in the area. Patch passed that information on to police, but Monrovia Police Lt. Nels Ortlund said investigators are aware of that woman and she is not the same person they've been trying to identify.

"This is not the same lady," Ortlund wrote.

The woman knows a small amount of English but has given multiple names and authorities have had no luck determining her identity, Ortlund said.

Police have not been able to determine the first language of the woman, who is of Asian descent. They even sent nuns who speak multiple Asian dialects down to the hospital to try and communicate with her but the efforts proved unsuccessful, Ortlund said.

The woman is believed to be between 50 and 60 years old. She has brown hair and brown eyes and weighs about 100 pounds. She has a noticeable birthmark on the left side of her nose that is not visible in the picture released to the media, Ortlund said.

Police have asked anyone who may know this woman to contact the department at 626-256-8000.
