Police Identify Man Accused of Attempted Rape During Home Invasion

A man allegedly barged into the Monrovia home of a former co-worker and tried to rape her before neighbors intervened.

Prosecutors have filed burglary and attempted rape charges against a man accused of breaking in to the Monrovia home of a former co-worker and trying to rape her before neighbors fought him off.

Darron Lewis, 46, of Duarte, was arrested Friday after he allegedly forced his way into a home in the 100 block of West Colorado and attempted to sexually assault a former co-worker.

Police said Lewis showed up to the home and asked for the woman by name. When she would not open the door, he forced his way in and climbed on top of her, Monrovia Police Lt. Michael Lee said.

"He told her he was going to rape her," Lee said. "He actually said it a couple times."

The woman screamed and three neighbors came into the house and allegedly fought off Lewis and subdued him until police arrived, Lee said.

"Looks like they had to beat him up a little bit," Lee said.

Lewis remains in custody in lieu of $50,000 in bail, according to sheriff's booking records.
