UPDATE: Armed Robber Steals $170 From Monrovia Wienerschnitzel

A masked man allegedly robbed the Wienerschnitzel on Huntington Drive Sunday night, police said.

A masked man carrying a "simulated weapon" robbed the Wienerschnitzel on Huntington Drive Sunday night, police said.

The man entered the Wienerschnitzel at about 8:40 p.m. and brandished what appeared to be a weapon inside a plastic bag, Monrovia Police Sgt. Nick Manfredi said.

"They were wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and a black mask and had a plastic bag with a simulated firearm inside the bag," Manfredi said. "He entered and pointed the bag at the clerk and demanded money."

The man made off with $170 in cash, Manfredi said. Authorities surrounded the area and called in a police helicopter to aid in the search for the suspect but he was not found.

Manfredi said police did not know if the man fled in a vehicle and he was not seen once he exited the fast food restaurant.

I was there about 8:00. I had a bad feeling about beeing there. one girl inside and one cook and no customers except for someone cruising around on a bike. it's so isolated there! practically underground and dark and no one around!

Too close to shaky parts of town and next to the freeway for a quick gettaway.

Some local restaurants only have drive-up window service after certain hours. Makes sense to me. The safety of employees comes first.

Glad no one was hurt.
