Police Warn of Mountain Lion Sighting in Monrovia Foothills

The Monrovia Police Department sent out a robo-call to residents after a mountain lion was spotted in a residential neighborhood Thursday night.

Police warned residents Friday to be on the lookout for a mountain lion that was spotted roaming around a foothill neighborhood Thursday evening.

The Monrovia Police Department sent out a robo-call alerting residents to the sighting, which was reported at 10:42 p.m. in the 400 block of Lotone Street in the Hidden Valley neighborhood, according to Monrovia Police Sgt. Dan Verna.

"A mountain lion was sighted in the last 24 hours in the residential foothill areas of Monrovia," the robo-call stated, according to Verna. "Please monitor your domestic pets and small children. Call the Monrovia Police Department immediately if you see the mountain lion."

The sighting comes just days after Sierra Madre residents reported seeing a mountain lion on West Mira Monte Avenue. Sierra Madre Police responded to the Monday call but were unable to locate the animal, which they described as “large,” with a long, tan body, long tail and big claws.

Verna said residents in both cities may have seen the same animal.

Monrovia Police notified the California Department of Fish and Game of the sighting Thursday, Verna said.
