About 700 customers are affected by the outage that began Monday morning, according to Southern California Edison.

A power outage knocked out electricity to about 700 customers in north Monrovia Monday morning, according to Southern California Edison.

Monrovia Police Lt. Jaime Alfaro said sparks were seen coming from power lines on Madison Avenue at about 8:45 a.m. Police contacted SCE and workers from the utility are on scene, he said.

"We are testing the lines to help limit the number of customers affected," the utility's online outage center states. The site lists the cause of the outage as "unknown" and identifies the outage area as north of Foothill Boulevard.
